Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was part of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including budget reform, tax reform as well as The Iran Contra scandal. She travelled frequently together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
